Masterclass: Corporate Politics

Every month, we record a paid class on PM best practices, where our lead instructor Clement covers weeks of product knowledge in 90 minutes or less. This month, we discussed how to navigate corporate politics as a product manager.

In this recorded class on corporate politics, we covered:

  • Why not all corporate politics is not fundamentally bad (but also why some flavors are toxic)

  • Leveraging corporate politics to ethically advance product objectives

  • How to map the political landscape for a given product initiative

  • Techniques for de-polarizing the workplace and aligning stakeholders & execs with your initiatives

  • A discussion on how to audit and strengthen your political situation as a product leader

Here’s a preview of 4 of the slides from this class (23 slides total):

As a product manager, you’ll continue to be exposed to novel situations that demand prior expertise. Rather than attempting to learn on the job, you’ll be much more effective if you come in with battle-tested frameworks at the ready.

Remember, you can typically expense professional development investments so that you don’t need to pay out-of-pocket!
