Supporting the Equality Act

In 2019, the House of Representatives took a significant step toward equality by passing the Equality Act, a vital piece of legislation aimed at protecting LGBTQIA+ individuals from discrimination in various aspects of their lives, including workplaces, homes, schools, and public spaces. As someone deeply committed to equal rights and with close friends, family members, and customers who identify as LGBTQIA+, I wholeheartedly support this initiative.

I firmly believe that the power of change lies in the hands of the people. Politicians rely on votes to remain in office, and those votes are cast by the very people they serve. By mobilizing a significant number of individuals who share our commitment to equality, we can exert the pressure needed to push our elected officials toward positive change.

That's why I stand with Taylor Swift and her petition, urging the Senate to support the Equality Act.

It is both disheartening and unacceptable that in our country, LGBTQIA+ people continue to live in fear that their lives could be disrupted by discrimination from employers, landlords, or others who harbor homophobic or transphobic views. The fact that some individuals remain legally vulnerable to the hatred and bigotry of others is a stark reminder of the work that still needs to be done to create a truly inclusive society.

We have an opportunity to demonstrate our pride as a nation by advocating for national laws that guarantee equal treatment for all citizens. The reintroduction of the Equality Act in 2021, coupled with President Biden's commitment to making it one of his top priorities in his first 100 days in office, gives us hope and momentum. Taylor Swift initially inspired over 800,000 fans and allies, including myself, to sign her petition in 2019. Now, we have a real chance to turn that support into tangible change.

By coming together, we can help ensure that every individual, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, is afforded the same rights and protections as their fellow citizens. Let's stand united in our pursuit of equality, and let our voices be heard as we join Taylor Swift's call to support the Equality Act.

Together, we can make a difference. Please add your name to the Change.org petition, and please reach out to your elected representatives to push for change.
